3am – and i’m on watch – as none of our tents are secure and the locals represent most of the 3% of South Korea who eats cetaceans, we don’t feel especially welcome here, so we do watches all through the night like on a ship. It’s cold (though not as cold as last night) and it smells incredibly bad! I’ve always suspected that industry does is dodgyest work in the middle of the night – and unless my nasal cavity thinks i’ve smoked too many cigarettes or not had a shower since arriving in the country and is rebeling accordingly – I’d say there’s some pretty dodgy stuff going on around here.
Maybe it’s happy hour at the local incinerator, or the ‘petrochemical estate’ is having a party – it’s too early in the morning for me to even guess.
Yesterday two Germans and a Brazillian joined our ranks, today three Americans will arrive – Adam (AC) and Jim (Campaigner) have been here almost a month and will be heading home for a week or three next week – to regain their sanity and recharge.
I’d have posted some images already – but this laptop I have access to is running windows 98 SE (yuck) and doesn’t have drivers for the camera installed yet, so no luck. Maybe I’ll hunt down some drivers now – though with three
people trying to sleep in here (our lovely operations centre green dome whale embassy has doubled (quadrupled) as sleeping quarters as our sleeping tent is getting a bit full of gear,) I’m a little conscious of my taptapping on the keyboard.
