The Australian Greens have accused Environment Minister Ian Campbell of hypocrisy over his support for two new coal mines.

Senator Campbell’s department, in a submission to a green group’s Queensland Federal Court challenge to the coal mines, has disputed that burning coal leads to global-warming greenhouse gases, and that climate change can have a severe impact on areas such as the Great Barrier Reef.

The court statement came a fortnight after Senator Campbell released a report warning that climate change was inevitable as a result of rising greenhouse emissions and the impact on the climate should be considered in all government decision making.”
