Me ‘flying the flag’ in Ulsan (or at least sticking it in the top of our ‘mast’ at the whale embassy.) Nice to go for a bit of a climb, it’s been a while!

Wow, it seems in Korea, there are no sim cards – phones have them built in – so there’s no prepaid stuff. Apparently mobile to mobile calls here are about $0.03/minute which is pretty damn cheap – pretty onto it tech-wise – all the houses have broadband, and they’re allegedly upgrading to provide 100 megabit…

4:30 and my watch is over – time to wake up Ben for his watch. It still smells really bad (it’s not me, definitely this ‘industrial armpit’ that is Ulsan) and we’re out of herbal tea so I was forced (by the cold) to drink normal (shitty, lipton) black tea. I hope I can get…

3am – and i’m on watch – as none of our tents are secure and the locals represent most of the 3% of South Korea who eats cetaceans, we don’t feel especially welcome here, so we do watches all through the night like on a ship. It’s cold (though not as cold as last night)…

Wow is it ugly here. We’re camped next to the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum, at the site where a dolphin and whale meat factory is to be built. We’re surrounded by rubble, with petrochemical plants and incinerators and really nice stuff like that everywhere we can see. Having just arrived, I’m still not entirely sure why…
